Kenya visible in the far distance. It is also known for its elephant herds and the rare Gerenuk antelope. The park is also renowned for its successful rhino conservation efforts. You’ll see rhinos in the enclosed rhino sanctuary in the park. The park is truly a bird watchers paradise with over 400 species recorded. This Safari gives you a chance to view a rich variety of wildlife including the big five – elephant, buffalo, rhino, leopard and lion as well as cheetah, hippo, zebra, giraffe, hartebeest, oryx, oribi, water-buck and abundant bird life. Enjoy the lush riverine forests, coursing rivers and in contrast the vast dry open plains dotted with baobabs. At
Samburu National Reserve you will marvel at wildlife found only north of the equator such as long necked Gerenuk, Grevy’s Zebra, Beisa Oryx and the Somali Ostrich. The Ewaso Nyiro River dotted with doom palms, acacia and giant fig trees meanders through the reserve.
The highlight of this 7 Days Meru Samburu and Reteti Conservation Safari package will be a visit to Reteti Elephant Sanctuary where you’ll appreciate the elephant conservation initiative that is run by the local people. When visitors arrive at the sanctuary, there is an introduction by one of the keepers and an opportunity to witness one of the feeding sessions from a shady, elevated platform looking down into the main enclosure. The baby elephants are bottle-fed individually by the care-givers, up close to the viewing platform.
